Together for Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. On Saturday, May 25, Woolwich Counselling Centre is hosting ‘Together for Mental Health’ – a free community event to engage in open and positive conversation about mental well-being.

The event will be held at Elmira District Secondary School (EDSS) (4 University Ave. E, Elmira ON N3B 1K2) from 12-4 pm.

The event aims to bring together the Woolwich and Wellesley Township communities in a show of solidarity and support for mental health. It aims to involve everyone—kids, youth, adults, seniors, local businesses, and other community organizations—to show that we are in this together, that we can and should support one another and that mental health matters.

Special guest speakers include Hayley Wickenheiser (Olympic gold medalist, member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, physician, Senior Director of Player Development for the Toronto Maple Leafs) and Corey Hirsch (NHL Goaltender and Olympic silver medalist, Speaker and Advocate for Mental Health and Wellness, Author).

This will be an engaging and activity-filled event for the young and the old. The event will include a speaker component and an activity component. During the speaker component, there will be two engaging presentations and time for Q&A. In the second part, there will be a fair-like atmosphere with booths and activities, and opportunities to engage and meet with celebrities (speakers as well as local celebrities).

Ways to Participate

• Attend on the day of the event to show support for mental health – there is no event registration. The event is free and open to all.

• Volunteer to support the event. Please email us at info@woolwichcounselling.org if you are interested. Volunteer hours are available to local students.

• If you are a business or community organization interested in sponsorship or providing an item for the silent auction, please email us at info@woolwichcounselling.org. All funds raised from the event directly support a free first counselling session for anyone who resides in Woolwich and Wellesley Townships. Funds raised also support no cost mental health workshops and subsidized small group therapy offered to our community — available on our Upcoming Events page.
